Makeup Tips to Elongate the FaceSeptember 18, 2018
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says “Why the long face?”. That horse obviously used some of the make tips I am about to give you to elongate your face. There are many ways to counteract the “moon face” or round face using a few tried and trusted makeup techniques and stylings. Elongating your face using makeup is all about using light play to enhance and detract your facial features. This post will give you some tips on how to lengthen the face.
Contouring for Lowlights
First of all, you want to apply contouring powder, mousse, liquid (etc.) to areas of the face you want in the background or not as prominent. Brush the contouring powder on the outer edges of your face such as left and right sides of your forehead, temples and a little on the outer cheekbones. Oh yeah and only use a contouring powder a couple of shades darker than your skin colour so that it appears natural. Apply some contouring powder to your outer jawline for an elongating effect. Use a small brush and apply a little on the crease either side of your nose, but make sure to use it sparingly.
Illuminate Your Features
Now that we have done the lowlights, it’s now time to apply the highlighter to accentuate the parts of your face and in turn, make your face look longer.
And again… your highlighter should only be one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Apply the highlighter to your cheekbones to make them look like they sit higher. A little on the top of your nose and forehead. Make sure you spend some time blending the highlighted parts of your face with the low lights. This step is really important. If not done correctly it will make your face look unnatural and weird.
Draw Attention to the Eyes
Sometimes drawing attention to something will detract attention away from something else. Same goes when trying to elongate your face. Emphasize your eyes by wearing mascara and eyeshadow. Also apply concealer under the eyes to really make them stand out. This creates an optical illusion and will help with achieving the desired result.
Lift Your Brows
Plucking your eyebrows to a higher arch will, as they say, give you an instant facelift. Don’t go too overboard. Keep your eyebrows nice and thick, otherwise plucking them too thin will make your face look rounder. They should taper up to a nice arch in the centre. To attract more attention to brows fill them in with an eyebrow pencil or with an eyebrow powder. Use a good quality pencil as the cheaper ones don’t seem to do the job as well and can look unnatural.
Accentuating your lips will help elongate the face. Use a bold colour like magenta or deep red. This will draw attention to the centre of your highlights and make your face appear longer. Use a little bit of lip liner on the cleft but don’t overdo it or you will look like a fish.
Change Your Wardrobe
Dark colours with plunging necklines are great for elongating the face. You’re trying to highlight the central area of your body so that it detracts from the outer areas.
Wear long dangly earrings. This makes your face appear longer as the jewelry dangles down creating lines and symmetry and that help elongate the face. If you’re wearing a plunging neckline, bling it up. Wear a beautiful necklace to the focus on the central area of your body.
Hairstyle is very important. If you have a round face, don’t get a blunt fringe and a bob. This is only going to make your face look even more round. Keep your fringe long and make sure your hair frames your face, covers the sides, and hides the roundness. Alternatively, you can wear your hair in a ponytail.
So if you follow these handy hints and walk into a bar. The bartender may ask you the same question as they did with the horse. Even better, they may just compliment you on how beautiful you look and ask for your phone number.
