Hair Care Tips for Beach GirlsMay 25, 2018
Australia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s natural that we frequent them at any possible chance and us girls all love our sun-kissed locks. But…. beach babes beware. The amazing past time of soaking in some sun on one of Australia’s beautiful beaches may be doing your hair some damage. No stress though, there are a number of precautions you can take to make sure your sun kissed locks don’t turn into a bird’s nest that could result in dreads. Also, another important step that’s often forgotten about is aftercare. After a session at the beach with ladies always make sure to rinse thoroughly and apply some aftercare products.
Before hitting the beach
If you love the beach and will be there most of the summer, I don’t blame you. Try stepping up your conditioner to a heavy moisturizer. This will help prevent the salt water from drying out your hair. A deep conditioning mask is another product I swear by and usually apply to my hair about 20 to 30 minutes before going to the beach. This provides my hair with protection all day. Braiding your hair may not seem like the smartest thing to do at the beach, but for some reason, it works. Braiding your hair will make it easier to brush after your beach session.
Another great natural alternative is coconut oil. I love coconut oil and use it for everything from skin moisturizer to cooking and for my hair, too. I work a small amount into my hair before I go to the beach or pool and this gives my hair extra protection.
If you have none of these products available, rinsing your hair in fresh water before you take a dip will also prevent damage – although isn’t as effective as coconut oil or conditioner. Experiment with these options to find the perfect product to keep your hair beautiful. I’ve tried them all and coconut oil is my go to, before and after I go swimming. It’s also a lot cheaper than a lot of the conditioner and salon products on the market.
After your beautiful day of fun in the sun, always ensure to wash your hair as soon as possible with fresh water. This will remove all the salt and prevent it from drying. When your hair gets too dry it becomes brittle and breaks leaving you looking like a witch.
If you do find your hair in a wretched condition after a day at the beach, when you get home, wash your hair with a mild shampoo and then use a good quality conditioner. Leave the conditioner in your hair for a bit longer than you normally would to ensure your hair absorbs all the moisture and replenishes the follicles. You can use argan oil in your aftercare regiment if your hair is really suffering from sun damage, as it doesn’t leave your hair oily like coconut oil can do. After you’ve showered, conditioned and dried your hair, apply some argan oil to your hair and really work it in. If you know someone who’s nice enough to give you a scalp massage take them up on that off and hand them the oil. Your hair will love you for it.
Your addiction to the beach doesn’t have taken a toll on your beautiful locks. A few precautionary measures and some aftercare will see your hair looking salon fresh even after a whole summer at the beach. And you can enjoy strong healthy sun-kissed hair for the rest of year. So there’s no need to sacrifice your favourite pastime because your worried about your hair turning into a withered crow’s nest.
