3 Ways To Supercharge Your Instagram Engagement

3 Ways To Supercharge Your Instagram Engagement

June 15, 2018 0 By Annette Carey

Instagram is the world’s second biggest social media platform after Facebook and has come a long way since its launch in 2010; bought out by Facebook for $1 billion in 2012 and by 2013 it added video content.

The photo and video sharing app is so popular that it now boasts 800 million users and 2 million active advertisers. Advertisers are flocking to Instagram because it is one of the best social media platforms to engage with customers. Today, the company boasts 25 million business profiles. You can see then, that Instagram is the place to do business.

Whether you use instagram for professional or personal reasons, everyone wants to instagram like a boss.

To help you get the most out of instagram, here are three ways you can ramp up your engagement:

Engage With Your Audience

In a recent interview, Instagram COO Marne Levine explained that 80% of people follow brands on social media because they want to.  According to Levine, “people come to Instagram to connect around shared passions and interests”.

Levine goes on to say that, one out of every five Instagram Stories from a business profile, leads to a direct message through the Instagram Direct feature. So, by using Instagram Direct we can engage with our audience in an organic way.

What we can learn from this, is that, when you go further and communicate with your followers, you are engaging with an interested audience. In other words you have your audience’s attention. When your audience has an emotional investment with your account, your engagement will increase. So, go and leave a comment and start a conversation.

Inject Your Own Style Into Your Instagram Account

Supercharge your stunning visuals by injecting your own style into them. Your community of followers will know if you’re authentic and, being yourself is what instagram is built on.

Taking an informal approach to stories will show more of your personality too, so posting fun behind-the-scene stories will help you do that. Stories are seen as intimate and authentic, making them great for engagement.

As an example, National Geographic has over 88 million followers on Instagram and you can see why, because of their breathtaking photography.

Many professional photographers contribute to achieve what National Geographic is famous for. We can follow in their footsteps by using good photographers (note the plural) as well as developing our own style much like National Geographic has its own style that is intrinsic to the brand.

Allow Your Community Of Followers To Generate Content

Collaboration is the name of the game, and if you use hashtags collaboratively, then this is another great way to increase engagement on Instagram.

Check out some of the big beauty stockists like ‘Sephora’. Sephora has over 14 million followers and just over 4000 posts to date on Instagram. But, if you check out the collaborative hashtags, then the posting figures skyrocket and  #sephora generates almost 7 million posts.

There is no way that the brand itself could post so much content, so when their community of followers start posting, engagement with the brand increases. Collaborative hashtags are an organic approach and can create positive conversations around your brand.
